Through a video camera on your smart phone, tablet or computer, you can have convenient, easy access to your Physical Therapist from the comfort of your own home. This secure, user-friendly technology is a great option for anyone who cannot attend in-person appointments due to disability, health issues, work schedules, travel plans or lack of transportation.

Q: Am I a good candidate for Telehealth for Rehabilitation Services?

A: Most patients can benefit from some type of rehab therapy via telehealth services. Please speak with your therapist, who is familiar with your situation and your rehab program plan.

 

Q: Can I use it instead of coming in to the office?

A: Yes.  Telehealth for Rehabilitation Services is available to help you and your therapist enhance your rehab program in the event that you have difficulty attending your in-person sessions because of illness, traveling, work or time restrictions and any other reason that might prevent you from consistent attendance for your therapy.

 

Q: What equipment/technology do I need to be able to use it?

A: You can use your desktop computer, laptop, tablet (iPad) or smart phone with access to the camera, microphone and speaker. You will also need internet access via your home Wi-Fi or cell phone service.

 

Q: Do I need any special phone apps or computer program?

A: No. Your therapist will send you an invite via text or email and you just need to answer the invitation and you will be connected automatically to you therapist.

 

Q: Is it hard to connect with my therapist online?

A: No. Once you respond to the invite, you will be connected directly to your therapist and can start your video telehealth therapy session immediately.

 

Q: How can I get started?

A: It’s easy. Just call the office where you receive rehabilitation services and we will give you the information needed to get started.

 

Q: Is it safe and secure?

A: Yes. We use an encrypted, cyber secure telehealth web portal that has been certified secure and protects your private health information.

 

Q: Is it covered by my insurance company?

A: Telehealth for Rehabilitation Services is like regular Physical Therapy provided in the office. It is covered by most major insurance companies.  However, prior to your video session our office staff will call your insurance company to verify your benefits and to secure any authorizations required.

 

Q: Is it legal?

A: Yes. The State of New Jersey has approved telehealth services, as long as it is provided by a licensed and qualified healthcare practitioner, including physical, occupational and speech therapists.

 

Q: Who does the telehealth rehabilitation therapy?

A: Your telehealth rehab session will always be conducted by a New Jersey-licensed physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech language therapist.

Q: How can I receive the same level of care without physically being with my Physical or Occupational Therapist?

A: While your therapist won’t be able to do the hands-on portion of a session, there is much that can be done to continue your treatment and improve your condition. Your physical or occupational therapist will be able to observe how your body is moving and can determine if there are range of motion, strength, or flexibility deficits and can give specific instructions and exercises to address that. They can assess pain through feedback from you verbally and visually and can make recommendations based on that. They can also make changes to your home exercises based on your feedback to keep you progressing in the best way possible.

Q: Could I do a combination of Telehealth visits and in-office visits if appropriate?

A: Yes, if your therapist feels that would be the most beneficial course of treatment based on your condition/injury. Remember that your insurance plan’s in-office benefits may differ from Telehealth benefits so patient financial responsibility could be different for each and authorization rules will have to be followed.

Q: I live in Pennsylvania. Can I still do Telehealth since you are located in New Jersey?

A: It depends. If your therapist is also licensed in Pennsylvania, then yes. If your therapist is not licensed in Pennsylvania, then no.
